Keys to Compliance

Vermont’s Advertising Regulations

Vermont law bans unfair and deceptive acts or practices related to advertising, including the use of footnotes or asterisks that contradict the principal message of the ad, small print sizes that make the ad difficult to read, and the use of inaccurate photographs or illustrations. Specific provisions address pricing, financing, trade-ins, and other advertising practices that may be considered deceptive. Advertised selling prices must represent the actual total price of the vehicle, excluding only tax, registration, and title fees. Clear and conspicuous disclosures in advertising are important as well as the responsibility of dealers to know and comply with advertising regulations.
