According to the Vermont Auto Outlook, sales of new light duty trucks are down 17% through October of 2022 when compared to same time last year. Sales of new passenger cars are down 26%. Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) represent 3.8% of new cars sales in Vermont. Plug in Hybrid vehicles (PHEV) have 2.6% of the market.

According to data from Cox Automotive and as reported in the New York Times, battery-powered vehicles are the fastest-growing segment of the auto market. Sales were up 70% in the first nine months of 2022 year over year, while internal-combustion-engine (ICE) vehicles were down 15%. Nationally EV’s share of new vehicle sales increased to 5.6% from 2.9% year over year.
