The Vermont Low and Zero Emission Vehicle Regulation

The Vermont Low and Zero Emission Vehicle Regulation requires that 35% of all new cars and light duty vehicles delivered for sale into Vermont must be Battery Electric or Plug-In Hybrid Electric by 2026. The requirement scales up (see chart below). In 2035, the regulation says 100% of all new cars sold in Vermont must have zero emissions. Medium and heavy duty trucks have a similar mandate but with a longer timeline. Under the regulation, 30% of all new trucks and buses sold in Vermont must have zero emissions by the end of the decade.
